ECOLISE is seeking a Content & Social Media Manager to raise the profile of community-led action on climate change and sustainability in Europe.

ECOLISE, the European network for community-led initiatives on climate change and sustainability, is a coalition of organisations engaged in promoting and supporting local communities across Europe in their efforts to build pathways to a sustainable future. The members of ECOLISE include international, national, and regional networks of community-led initiatives, as well as other organisations engaged in European-level research, training, communications, or other activities to support community-led climate action and sustainability. You can have a look at our old website (new one coming soon!) and get to know our action program, Communities for Future.

As the ECOLISE team is 100% remote-based, while we do have an office in Brussels, it is envisaged that the successful candidate will work remotely on a freelance basis. For Belgium-based candidates, it is open to design direct employment by ECOLISE. In either case, the successful candidate will be contracted initially for one year (renewable), with a 4-month probationary period.

As a team, we are a group of passionate, purpose-driven individuals who bring our whole hearts and creative minds to the workplace and the service of our members. We foster a human-centred and collaborative working culture where everyone is encouraged to take initiative and responsibility for the direction, quality, impact, and character of our constantly evolving work.

Collaborating with ECOLISE contributors and project partners, the successful candidate will focus on serving our purpose by creating content and engaging with our network through social media and other communication channels. Working with the whole ECOLISE team in the organisation, the Content & Social Media Manager will play a key role in the delivery of the communications strategy and campaigns, with a focus on social media and digital communications.

The Content & Social Media Manager will play a pivotal role in elevating the visibility of communities’ efforts addressing climate change and sustainability in Europe. Their primary focus will be to expand awareness and engagement with our Communities For Future initiative.

Main responsibilities:

  • Develop and produce high-quality written content for our ECOLISE and CfF websites, including articles, blog posts, press releases, newsletter, etc. aligned with the organization's messaging and communication goals.
  • Create and edit high-quality multimedia content, such as images, videos, graphics, infographics, etc. to engage with the target audiences.
  • Plan, write, edit and post all social media content across ECOLISE/Communities for Future social media channels.
  • Collaborate with team members to gather information and insights for content creation.
  • Engage with and grow our community across all social media channels. Monitor and moderate comments, re-share content from our network and respond to queries that arrive through social media channels and the website.
  • Track and analyse social media metrics to monitor the performance of social media content and digital engagement campaigns. Produce regular reports and recommendations to share with the team and optimise social media activity on an ongoing basis.

  • Storyteller with a passion for sustainability, community and advocacy.
  • At least 3 years proven work experience with social media, content creation and content management, and ability to generate, edit, publish and share engaging content.
  • Excellent copywriting, editing, and proofreading skills in plain English.
  • Graphic design, photo and video editing skills.
  • Strong knowledge of and enthusiasm for digital communications and social media trends.
  • Self-starter with a willingness and capacity to work remotely and collaboratively as part of a team that is distributed across Europe.
  • Good capacity, enthusiasm, and empathy when communicating with the wide diversity of ECOLISE/CfF target audiences and stakeholders (from local initiatives to policy makers and media at EU level).
  • Compliance with ECOLISE’s Code of Conduct.
  • You are based in Europe (physically and fiscally).

  • Nice to have competencies:

    • Deep knowledge of community-led action for climate change and sustainability.
    • Experience with co-creation, sociocracy, participatory governance and/or deliberative processes.
    • Experience with social media ads.
    • Fluent in languages other than English, both spoken and written, for communication and content production purposes with various target audiences.
    • Experience using online publishing tools, including content management systems, social media scheduling and analytics (e.g. Hootsuite, WordPress, Google Analytics).

Freelance remuneration: fees are currently under review, but the projected remuneration is minimum €200,00 per day. There is flexibility in defining one’s own working days and times, yet some year periods demand a more intensive working rhythm.
