Latinos for Education is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director to lead our policy and advocacy work in the Massachusetts region. This individual will play a pivotal role in advancing our organization's mission by leading strategic efforts to influence policy change and advocate for educational equity within the Commonwealth. They will also lead coalitions to collaborate with key stakeholders and community partners to drive systemic change.

Responsibilities

Regional Policy & Advocacy Strategy

  • In partnership with the Executive Director, lead the development, execution, and continuous improvement of a comprehensive policy and advocacy strategy for the Commonwealth that aligns with our national Latino Action Agenda, with a particular focus on educator diversity and early college access in the near-term
  • Leverage the expertise of external consultants and lobbyist for guidance and support
  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis of educational policies and trends, providing data-driven insights to inform advocacy strategies and initiatives
  • Regularly attend convenings and legislative meetings to be up to date on all education policies and key issues in the Commonwealth

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with elected/appointed officials, legislative aides, and community leaders to champion policies and decisions in alignment with our policy and advocacy strategy
  • Support relationship management for the Executive Director, Massachusetts and/or CEO when appropriate
  • Forge and steward strategic partnerships, collaborations, and coalitions with like-minded organizations, creating a united front for advocating for policy changes that benefit the Latino community
  • Activate our regional network of fellows, alumni, EdCentro members, and the broader Latino community in support of our agenda
  • Represent the organization in external forums, including conferences, meetings, public speaking engagements, and media opportunities
  • Design and execute advocacy related events
  • Collaborate with the External Affairs team and external consultants to execute campaigns, prepare for media opportunities, and develop a cohesive narrative about our advocacy agenda

General Management

  • Track relationship and engagement data through Salesforce
  • Participate in national and regional team meetings and retreats and actively contribute to a positive team culture grounded in our organizational core values

Qualifications

This is an extraordinary opportunity for a self-motivated individual who has a proven track record of developing and implementing successful policy advocacy strategies that have led to tangible outcomes. The successful candidate will be highly organized, have excellent interpersonal skills, a strong local network, and operate with a sense of urgency. Specific requirements include:

Required

  • Based in Massachusetts with ability to frequent Boston
  • 7+ years of general professional experience
  • 3+ years of experience in education policy/advocacy fields
  • In-depth knowledge of local, state, and national education policies and their impact on the Latino community
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex policy issues to diverse audiences and engage stakeholders effectively
  • Excellent relationship building skills and ability to influence others to action in support of a mission
  • Understanding of local context and Latino education landscape in Massachusetts
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred

  • Fluent in Spanish (reading, writing and speaking)
  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM

Salary & Benefits

Latinos for Education offers competitive industry rate salary bands to retain and grow talented individuals. We conduct a robust internal and external benchmarking process to ensure that our salaries are competitive.
The salary range for this role is commensurate with experience and is as follows:

  • Compensation Band: $93,500 - 126,500
  • Mid-Point: $110,000

The compensation band midpoint represents the market rate for a position, and a candidate that fully meets the qualifications and experience required for the role will generally be paid at this level. An offer made to a candidate that is above the midpoint would represent someone who is extraordinarily qualified.
