We work in more than 20 countries through our 17 permanent country offices and programs across Asia and the Pacific, supported by a headquarters in San Francisco and an office in Washington, DC. Our funding comes from a diverse array of bilateral and multilateral development agencies, foundations, corporations, and individuals.

The Asia Foundation seeks a Senior Development Officer- Environment and Climate Action to lead partnership formation, grant writing, fundraising, and program strategy development efforts. In this crucial role, the Senior Development Officer will support the transition and expansion of the Foundation’s environment and climate action programs, focusing on climate adaptation, resilience, mitigation, green growth, and natural resource management.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent proposal writing skills, a deep understanding of international environmental and climate issues, comprehensive knowledge of the funding landscape, and the ability to develop innovative program strategies. Reporting to the Director of Corporate and Foundation Partnerships, the Senior Development Officer will work closely with the Strategic Partnerships Unit, the Senior Director of Environment and Climate Action, the Foundation’s country offices in Asia and the Pacific, and program specialists across various sectors to advance the Foundation’s environmental initiatives.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Grant and Proposal Writing:

  • Research and identify grant opportunities that align with the mission and programs.
  • Development prepares, writes, and submits grant proposals and reports in a timely manner.
  • Co-create and manage an organization-wide grants management system.
  • Collaborate with program leaders on program-related grants.
  • Lead proposal development efforts in collaboration with the Foundation’s country offices and program specialists for funding opportunities from foundation, corporate, and public sector donors.

Fundraising:

  • Identify, cultivate, and manage relationships with significant environment and climate-focused donors, particularly foundations and corporations.
  • Explore partnerships with leading climate-related organizations for joint fundraising purposes.
  • Identify and cultivate new funding sources, including individual donors, corporate supporters, and foundations.
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of major gift prospects, conducting research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
  • Contribute to developing the Foundation’s evolving climate strategy in collaboration with the Environment and Climate Action team, country offices, program specialists, and the Strategic Partnerships team.
  • Support the development of relevant communications and outreach materials.
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally.
  • Flexibility in work hours and availability some evenings and weekends.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, public relations, philanthropic studies, environment, climate, sustainable development, or a related field in international development. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum five years of professional experience in non-profit fundraising, proposal writing, and development with proven success.
  • Strong program design and technical writing skills, particularly on proposals and concept notes. Ability to write persuasively, clearly, and concisely to synthesize information from multiple sources into effective fundraising documents.
  • Excellent communication skills, strong organizational and project management abilities, and the ability to work effectively across multiple teams.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with large international environmental and climate organizations, especially those operating in Asia and the Pacific.
  • Experience and knowledge of environmental and climate issues and trends in Asia and the Pacific. With a preference for those who have worked in Asia and the Pacific.

Salary

The salary range is $83,174 to $124,761 annually.
