About
Accomplished, multifaceted medical doctor and specialist in psychiatry educated in both developing and developed countries. Medical and Master’s Degree from Croatia (orientation: Public Health). Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from the United States. Certified by the United States’ Centre for Attitudinal Healing as a peer support group facilitator after completion of 2-year on-the-job training in psychosocial support to internally displaced people and refugees in Croatia. Trained in community-based psychosocial support by Church of Sweden, member of ACT Alliance. 2-month internship at Vienna General Hospital in Austria. More than 30 years of working experience as a medical doctor and humanitarian worker in the Balkans, Western Europe, South-East Asia, Africa, Middle East, Caribbean and Western Pacific. More than 20 years of experience in International Health, especially in mental health and psychosocial support programming after disasters. Areas of expertise include: mental health and psychosocial support, primary health care with the emphasis on community-based health care and community based mental health care and healthcare system strengthening (HSS). Broad knowledge on various public health issues and functioning of public health and social services system. Worked for different international organizations, both UN and INGO ones. The most important ones include the World Health Organization, International Medical Corps, Malteser International and Church of Sweden. Free-lance Consultant since 2010. Published 5 books and 20 papers in peer-reviewed journals. Fluent in English (TOEFL-93%) and German language. Working knowledge of French and Russian. Excellent computer skills: Word, Excel, Access, E-mail and Internet. Major goal is to alleviate human suffering where most needed.
