Womankind offers comprehensive services in 18+ Asian languages and dialects, including our 24/7 multilingual helpline, safe and confidential emergency residences (shelters), counseling, family and immigration legal services, economic empowerment workshops, wellness activities, creative arts therapy, youth programs, and so much more.

Womankind seeks a full-time Associate Director of Institutional Giving to join our Development & Communications Team, currently composed of a Chief Development Officer (CDO), an Associate Director of Development, a Communications Manager, and two additional to-be-hired positions - a Development Associate and a Grant Writer. The Development team raises funds to support the entirety of Womankind’s programs, operations, and infrastructure; increases visibility for Womankind as a leader in the gender-based violence field; and develops external partnerships that support resource building for the organization’s long-term sustainability.

Annually, Womankind raises over 80% of its funds through Federal, State, and City grants; the remaining amount is raised through Foundations, Corporations, and Individual Giving. Womankind is continuing to diversify its funding streams and increase its private contributions over the next 5 years.

Primary Responsibilities

The Associate Director of Institutional Grants (IG) is a high-level fundraising and focused position. The Associate Director of IG serves as the agency’s primary government and foundation grant writer and manages the portfolio of federal, state, and city grants. This role supports the CDO and CEO in prospecting and cultivating relationships with lapsed, existing, and new foundations, and on occasion support CDO and CEO with approaches to corporate entities.

Grants Management

  • Manage 45+ grant and contract portfolio composing 80% of Womankind’s annual budget
  • Create tools and processes to achieve this (above); Annual flow tools, grant opening meetings/closing cycle; etc.
  • Management of grant-related portals - SAM, Grants.gov, DOJ, CapGrants, SFS and others as they arise
  • Compliance and contract administration of all Government Grants; understand/interpret policies and help team on contract requirements; maintain documentation, and pre-qualifications
  • Coordinate award negotiation process; work with fiscal and program leadership on deliverables, budget amendments, etc.
  • Create and utilize systems, templates, and organization strategies for grants management agencywide: proposal creation/submission; grants cycle management; including solicitation, review, implementation management, monitoring, communication with funders and/or govt agencies, and closeout
  • On private grants: prepare regular reports; work with program team to identify any issues; liaise with funders

Grant Writing & Fundraising

  • Act as agency’s lead Government and Foundation grant writer, and proposal manager (guiding the over grant process including budgeting needs, legal/programmatic requirements; MOUs, letters of support, and proposal narrative development); ensuring strong collaboration with cross-functional teams for consistently submitting competitive applications for funding
  • Work with leadership on setting organizational strategy around securing Government and private grant funding
  • Meet goals as set by CDO, CEO, and Fiscal budget (quarterly, annually etc.) and perform tracking against established benchmarks; incl annual pipelining tools
  • Work with CDO on estimating revenue/scenarios/cashflow etc. based on goals
  • Prospect research, cultivate, and manage relationships with Foundation funders
  • Identifying private and government grants aligned to Womankind’s mission, priorities, and areas of work
  • Remain up to date on the changing philanthropic environment; local, regional, national trends in philanthropy, practice and policy along with working knowledge of women’s, gender-based violence, Asian community and intersectional issues
  • Stay up to date on grants-related fundraising

Program Development/Cross Departmental Coordination and Support:

  • Strategize with Executive Leadership and Program Managers to refine current programs and help develop strategies that support programmatic strength and growth
  • Partner with Chief Program Officer and Program Team to ensure proposals are developed in support of most important needs; to stay abreast of evolving program advancements and fundraising needs; and to ensure understanding of progress against proposal outcomes and budgets
  • Support development of logic models, concept notes; maintain pitch-able list of highlights, outcomes etc. for the agency
  • Collaborate with programs on establishing program outlines, and targets, especially in relation to new/potential funders
  • Working with programmatic staff at all levels to move program development processes forward
  • Liaise between Program and Fiscal Departments to meet funder requirements
  • Assist team members with complex issues related to grants; creatively navigate issues that are cross-departmental

Data/Information:

  • Periodically collect program data- qualitative and quantitative for the preparation of reports, analysis, and presentations on grantee/activity performance
  • Creatively package agency outcomes and outputs
  • Look at data to identify strengths, risks for working with institutional funders and how to mitigate
  • Utilize, adjust and package organizational and programmatic data to define strategic plans for solicitation of prospects; help guide/improve our approaches to funders

Supervision:

  • Manage and provide direct supervision of a full-time Grant Writer (to-be-hired in Q3/Q4), providing strategic direction and ensuring that overall goals are met
  • Provide support for supervisees’ professional development and growth

Coordination with Dev Team:

  • Supervise shared and/or dedicated development volunteer(s) and interns
  • Contribute to maintaining up-to-date records in Donor Database and Development Team reports
  • Oversee maintenance of up-to-date and accurate records for assigned funders, recording all interactions including detailed meeting reports
  • Actively participate in Development team meetings and contribute to the overall fundraising planning/strategy
  • As needed, engage in lightly supporting events when it calls for entire team engagement and implementation

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant and proven non-profit grant writing experience and success, especially with government and or large foundation grants
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organization, multi-tasking, attention to detail, research and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently, but also able to work in a collaborative, team style
  • Proactive with ability to work independently and to problem-solve
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and open to flexible hours as needed to meet deadlines
  • Interest in the area of violence against women and/or Asian communities
  • BA required

Compensation Package

Womankind offers a competitive and outstanding compensation package. Annual salary range for this position is between $80,000 and $90,000, based on the candidate’s experience, skill set, education, and other criteria.
