Crux is a sustainable finance technology company changing the way clean energy and decarbonization projects are financed in the U.S. The company’s first offering is the ecosystem for buyers, sellers, and intermediaries to transact and manage transferable tax credits. Crux is co-founded by Alfred Johnson and Allen Kramer, who previously founded and exited a successful marketplace software company, Mobilize. Rob Parker serves as Chief Commercial Officer and brings 20+ years of experience in the power industry, most recently serving as CFO at REV Renewables.

Since its launch in 2023, Crux has raised $27 million in funding from a16z, Lowercarbon, QED, Ardent Venture Partners, Canapi Ventures, New System Ventures and others including strategic investors. We have built a world-class team that merges expertise from energy, finance, government, and technology to power the clean energy transition.

Who we’re looking for

We are hiring a Design Lead to help make our product the easiest way to transact & manage transferable tax credits. The status quo process is manual & onerous: from pairing supply with demand, through to executing a transaction & reporting on it in an ongoing way. We’ve built the first version of a product that solves part of that problem, but need to iterate & expand through the workflow.

If done right, we believe that the same product will allow us to expand to other types of renewable energy transactions. A seamless user experience is critical to succeeding in that mission, and we’re looking for somebody to own that.

This designer will work in close collaboration with our experienced engineering & product team to express the vision & help bring it to life. All the while, we’re centering building a company where we:

What you’ll do

• Own the user experience of the Crux product: a suite of workflow tools for buyers, sellers & intermediaries to find, transact & report on transferable tax credits
• Ensure we maintain a high bar for quality as we go live with additional types of customers & products
• Help us identify the biggest problems facing our customers & find elegant yet effective solutions
• Collaborate directly with our experienced engineers to implement those solutions
• You will help us build the company by telling us where we can improve

Who you are

• 8+ years of experience as a designer, ideally working on business-facing software products
• You’ve owned the user experience of a significant product, ideally through multiple phases
• You enjoy building and cultivating a collaborative and inclusive team environment
• You have experience successfully leading and building culture for remote-first teams
• You are excited about using your skills to make sustainable finance more efficient and interconnected

• Estimated all-in cash compensation of $180k - $210k.
