About Girl Plus Environment

Mission Statement: The mission of Girl Plus Environment (GPE)  is to educate, engage, and empower Black and Brown women+ to stand up for climate and environmental justice in their own communities. The vision of Girl Plus Environment is to see Black and Brown women+ at the forefront of environmental justice conversations, decisions, solutions and leadership in order to successfully mitigate environmental barriers and improve the overall quality of life for Black and Brown communities across the U.S.

‍Organizational Background: Girl Plus Environment is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to educating, engaging, and empowering Black and Brown women+ to lead in the fight for environmental and climate justice. Founded in 2019 by award-winning climate activist, Diamond Spratling, GPE exists to close the critical gap in representation, leadership, and access for communities who have long been excluded from environmental decision-making, despite being among the most impacted.

‍Purpose: We’re looking for a highly skilled Grant Writer & Development Specialist to play a crucial role in securing funding through grant writing, supporting the ED to cultivate relationships with potential donors, and enhancing the organization's overall development strategy.  


Responsibilities

• Write and submit high-quality grant proposals (this includes the collection and development of supplemental materials for the grant applications)
• Ensure timely submission of grant applications and compliance with grantor requirements
• Support ED with cultivating and maintaining relationships with potential donors, foundations, and other funding entities
• Collaborate with team members to highlight achievements and impact for public awareness (including pitch decks, 1-pagers, and impact reports)

Skills and Qualifications

• Proven experience in grant writing and successful grant applications for six-figure grants
• Experience writing federal grants (includes familiarity with grants.gov and login.gov)
• Experience working with a nonprofit organization
• Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
• Possesses a robust network of prospective donors and funding partners
• Strong budget development and management experience
• Knowledge of climate and environmental justice and gender issue areas
• Self-driven, needs little oversight

Budget

We are looking to work with a team or individual on a monthly retainer. We are looking to begin working on a six-month contract and hope to extend the contract if this turns out to be a good match. Our budget for a monthly retainer is $4,000.
