About Common Mission Project

The Common Mission Project (CMP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering innovation in national interest by engaging with universities, emerging talent, and industry stakeholders. Through flagship programs like Hacking for Defense (H4D), CMP provides a platform for experiential learning and real-world problem-solving. These initiatives empower students and educators to contribute to the future of talent, cutting-edge technology, entrepreneurship, and policy innovation.

Position Summary

The Impact & Insights Manager will strengthen and scale CMP’s data infrastructure, connecting Innovation Fund disbursements and problem sets to measurable student and program outcomes. This role ensures CMP can track, interpret, and communicate the real-world results of our work, providing funders, partners, and stakeholders with credible, timely, and compelling evidence of impact.

This position sits at the intersection of data integrity, impact measurement, and storytelling. The ideal candidate will be equally skilled at working within strong existing systems, building new solutions where needed, and exercising ongoing system stewardship to ensure CMP’s insights remain accurate, relevant, and actionable over time.

This Role is For You If…

  • you can’t rest until a spreadsheet is perfectly clean, structured, and color-coded, you’ll feel right at home.
  • people joke that you’re the one who spots the typo or the missing zero, this role will feel natural.
  • you get as much satisfaction from designing a chart that makes sense to everyone as you do from crunching the numbers behind it, you’ll thrive here.
  • you want to not just build systems but be their ongoing steward, keeping them alive, accurate, and improving, you’ll fit right in.
  • you take pride in details that most people overlook, and get a kick out of seeing how those details power the big picture, you’ll love this role.

Key Responsibilities

Impact Data Management & Analysis

  • Maintain and strengthen CMP’s data systems to ensure completeness, consistency, and scalability.
  • Connect Fund disbursements, program data, and student outcomes in a clear and structured framework.
  • Analyze and interpret data to identify trends and demonstrate the tangible impact of CMP’s work.
  • Produce quarterly and annual impact reports for leadership, board, funders, and partners.

Data-Driven Storytelling & Communications

  • Translate data into compelling visuals, proof points, and narratives that advance CMP’s mission.
  • Deliver data-backed insights to marketing and development for use in sponsorships, proposals, and communications.
  • Provide rapid-turnaround insights that equip CMP leadership with strong narratives for stakeholders.

Systems Optimization & Process Improvement

  • Enhance existing systems and build new ones where needed to support CMP’s evolving growth.
  • Deliver intuitive dashboards and tools that make data accessible across the organization.
  • Maintain documentation and training that ensure CMP’s systems are sustainable, scalable, and aligned with ongoing system stewardship.

First 90 Day Success Milestones

Establish Foundation: Build a deep understanding of CMP’s existing data and reporting systems, which are already effective and in active use. Strengthen this foundation by applying consistent structures and conventions, and set the stage for scalability as CMP continues to grow. Provide early data-backed insights that reinforce CMP’s mission story in external communications.

Integrate Current Operations: Embed the centralized data framework into active Fund and program cycles so that it becomes a natural part of how CMP operates. Ensure the systems not only track activity but also generate insights that directly support leadership, partnerships, and marketing.

Launch Reporting Framework: Deliver CMP’s first integrated impact dashboard and baseline impact report, demonstrating the value of connecting Fund data, program outcomes, and stakeholder needs. Establish a recurring reporting rhythm that scales with CMP’s growth and ensures ongoing system stewardship across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Comfortable operating with a startup mindset; adaptable in a fast-moving environment, resourceful in problem-solving, and motivated by CMP’s mission to transform national security innovation.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in data management, impact measurement, program evaluation, or operational analytics.
