Help philanthropic professionals pitch great climate solutions

We’re looking for someone to join our small team to help us build from the ground up! Join us to help unlock money for the critical climate solutions we need.

Climate change is the greatest challenge of our time. Fossil fuel companies spend huge amounts of money to confuse and distract the public, making the climate crisis seem impossibly complex and difficult to fix. Large donors and their staff are bewildered as to where to start and how best to direct their resources.

At Redwoods, we have a different vision. We know that climate change is absolutely fixable, and the levers for change are tried and true – not endlessly complicated. We can help restore balance in the atmosphere if we can support donors and their advisors to cut through the noise and fund the big solutions that work.

Who We Are: Redwoods was launched in 2024 to accelerate climate philanthropy, and is supported by ClimateWorks Foundation, High Tide Foundation, Climate Cousins, and Climate Lead. We primarily work with philanthropic advisors. We provide:

  • A curated list of fundable opportunities vetted by leading philanthropies
  • Diligence packages with clear recommendations
  • Climate philanthropy training and access to expert guidance
  • Direct support for ongoing insight and advice

We believe together we can move with speed to help regenerate our planet!

We are looking for an experienced Philanthropic Advisor to work closely with our users, providing high quality 1:1 support tailored to their needs. Our users are philanthropic professionals of all kinds - individual advisors to families, consultants at large firms, staff at corporate and family foundations, and more. Your job will be to understand what they are hoping to fund, recommend great climate organizations in our library, and help them craft a pitch that lands with their clients. Our main metric of success is how much money we help philanthropies move to climate.

Who you are:

You are an experienced philanthropic professional or fundraiser that has worked with or for UHNW donors, their advisors, foundations, DAFs, and/or family offices. Familiarity with and experience in the world of philanthropy is a must. You are passionate about helping donors and their staff find fantastic fundable opportunities, and are well versed in pitching organizations and describing their impact, contributions to their sectors, and risks in easy to understand language. Expertise in climate is not a must, but strong interest in the space and willingness to dive in and learn will be key to providing excellent service and succeeding in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Relationship Management: You will be responsible for managing relationships with a large number of Redwoods users (50-100). Some users like a lot of 1:1 support, others are very low touch. Your job will be to categorize them accordingly. Then, execute a sales process that puts high value opportunities on their radar and guides them through the process of building confidence, culminating in the allocation of a grant.
  • CRM and Collateral Materials: Redwoods uses the Copper CRM, which sits on top of Gmail. You’ll use Copper to keep track of communications with users and where they are in the sales process. You’ll use existing resources and collateral where useful, such as email templates and master pitch decks, and improve/build new ones when you need them.
  • Feedback loop to team: Our interactions with users are our most valuable source of information on what’s working and what’s needed to achieve our goals at Redwoods. You’ll take detailed notes, distill feedback, trends, and patterns that you notice, and share these insights proactively with the team to ensure that we are building the most valuable/effective product and service possible.
  • Keep an eye on scalability: Our aspiration at Redwoods is to serve thousands of philanthropic professionals and their clients. The dream is a service that feels bespoke to each user, while being easy for our team to execute over and over. We are constantly thinking about how we can leverage templates, tech, AI, and other tools to do our work better and more efficiently. You’ll be responsible for identifying the parts of your workstreams that consume the most time and effort, and strategizing with the team on how to break those bottlenecks.

Desired Competencies

  • Self-Starter: After a period of onboarding and learning, you’ll be responsible for managing the relationships that you’re assigned independently, with high standards for service and follow up. We are looking for someone that enjoys this degree of autonomy, while knowing that support is there when you ask for it.
  • Grant making, fundraising, and advising: Experienced in sales, fundraising, customer success, or donor/investor relationship management.
  • Genuine passion for fixing climate change: If you don’t believe in science or don’t care about our shared future, this job isn’t for you. Your genuine enthusiasm is one of your most powerful tools for convincing others to join the fight against climate change.
  • Project Management & Execution Maestro: Skilled in organizing workflows, setting priorities, and keeping projects on track to meet goals.
  • Great Communicator: Clear written and verbal communication with the team, partners, and users.
  • Systems Brainiac: Proficient with tools like ChatGPT, Airtable, G Suite, Slack, Zoom, or able to learn super fast.
  • Startup Enthusiast: Thrives in early-stage environments, embraces problem-solving, and adapts flexibly as organizational needs evolve.

Nice-to-Have

  • Data-Driven Insight: Capable of collecting and analyzing data to create actionable insights that drive team improvements.
  • Experience in the climate sector

Quality of Life and Compensation

Because Redwoods is in pilot mode, we offer generous compensation as contractors with big growth potential and access to some of the top climate funders in the world. If we succeed, this role and ours will transition to a full-time, salaried position and we’ll create a massive impact on climate and people’s lives.

1099: 12-month contract through ClimateWorks, our fiscal sponsor. We boost market-rate pay rate by 20% to offset being unable to offer benefits like healthcare and 401(k) yet!

Compensation: $110K–$150K, based on experience and the cost-of-living of your location.

Location: Most of our team is in the SF Bay Area, working together in person a couple of times a week at beautiful Ferry Building offices. We prefer Bay Area candidates for hybrid work but will consider U.S.-based applicants.

Culture: This is a full-time, 40+ hour/week role where we prioritize results over facetime. As a bootstrapped founding team, we roll up our sleeves—handling everything from admin and scheduling to writing and troubleshooting. We figure stuff out for ourselves, lean heavily on our dynamo networks for advice, and use AI to get us further faster.

We also embrace a flexible work style. Need to see your doctor? Your health is most important. Want to take a yoga class on a Friday afternoon? Go for it. Want to start work early so that you can leave at 4pm to pick up your kids from school? We love it. While we work hard and roll with the ups and downs of building something new, that doesn’t mean we’ll burn you out. Balance and time to enjoy life are big priorities here.

Come join us on this awesome ride and let’s build an organization to achieve our potential!
