The Opportunity

Are you passionate about building a more sustainable future? HMTX Industries is looking for a Sustainability Specialist to help us align our products and processes with our industry-leading sustainability goals. In this role, you’ll be a key player in ensuring our commitment to environmental and social responsibility is not just a promise, but a reality.

You will manage product sustainability certifications, maintain critical data on third-party platforms, and evaluate product compositions to ensure regulatory compliance and minimize environmental and health impacts. You’ll also create engaging educational content, provide expert sustainability insights for marketing and sales materials, and help report on our progress in various sustainability initiatives.


What You’ll Do

As a Sustainability Specialist, you'll be responsible for a range of critical tasks, including:

  • Managing Sustainability Certifications & Data: You'll manage product certifications like Declare, Health Product Declarations (HPDs), and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). You'll also maintain and update product data on key platforms like mindful MATERIALS, EC3, and 3E Exchange, and use this information to create Product Passports.
  • Ensuring Compliance & Impact: You'll evaluate and report on the chemical composition of our products to ensure compliance with North American regulations and to mitigate potential environmental and human health risks.
  • Educating & Communicating: You'll spearhead the creation of educational content—including videos and tutorials—to inform internal teams about our evolving sustainability programs. You'll also review and contribute sustainability content to our marketing and sales materials, from websites to press releases.
  • Supporting ESG and Reporting: You'll assist with data collection and calculations for key reports, including our ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Impact Reporting, GHG emissions, and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs. You'll also support other reporting processes, such as UNGC Questionnaires and our materiality assessments.
  • Driving Internal Initiatives: You'll help develop and oversee a multi-campus task force focused on conservation, waste reduction, and efficient water and energy usage. You'll also coordinate responses to customer inquiries (RFIs and RFPs) and help organize logistical elements for sustainability tradeshows.


What We’re Looking For

  • Experience: 2–4 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Required: Applied knowledge of sustainability concepts, including GHG emissions, climate and ecosystem health, circular economy, product transparency, and social equity.
  • Required: Moderate to high proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Preferred: Knowledge of key sustainability certifications (e.g., Declare, HPDs, EPDs) and databases (e.g., mindful MATERIALS, EC3, 3E Exchange).
  • Preferred: Knowledge of EPR programs, regulatory requirements, Scenario Analysis, and climate risk assessments.

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Preferred: A major in Sustainability Studies, Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, or a similar field.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • LEED Accreditation
  • WELL Accreditation
  • Living Future Accreditation (LFA)

Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $60K to $75K a year and a yearly bonus potential. This range is applicable for jobs performed in the Eastern and Central Time Zones. An employee’s pay position within the pay range will be based on several factors including relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, and business organizational needs.

Work Environment:

  • Schedule: Standard hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (local time).
  • Travel: Some overnight travel may be required.
  • Physical Demands: This is a mostly sedentary role. You should be able to lift, pull, or maneuver up to 25 lbs. and be able to use repetitive hand and wrist motions.
