New Year, New Resume

Happy New Year, Impact Jobbers! Is your New Year's resolution to land your dream job in the social impact industry? We've got ya covered. We're back with more great social impact jobs, news, job tips, and jokes.

To ring in 2024 and the start of a new job-hunting season, we're giving you all the advice you need to brush up your resume. We know ya haven't looked at that thing since before Thanksgiving. Hope you got your holidays kicks in cause the party is over, friendo.

Here's how to create a winning social impact resume in 2024:

  1. Personalize it. Start with a basic resume template that you can personalize for each job you apply for. Do your research on the company so that you can write in their tone of voice and highlight your past projects that align with their mission the most.
  2. Don't be afraid to use color on your resume, but don't go overboard. A boring black-and-white resume will easily get lost. However, you still want your resume to be easy to scan (aka, not super busy). Strategically use colors and formatting to walk that line.
  3. Write in active voice and use quantifiable data whenever possible. When speaking about your previous positions that make you a great candidate for the role you're applying for, include a bulleted list of highlights from each role. Rather than buzzwords, include quantifiable data to showcase the tangible impact you made in your previous position.
  4. Keep it relevant. Focus on your positions from the last 10-15 years. In fact, you can remove experience from 2010 and before.
  5. Add your LinkedIn bio to your contact info. If the hiring manager wants to know more about you, LinkedIn is the first place they'll go. Make sure your profile is up to date and that you're adding new posts on a regular basis.
