The September Surge is Coming...Are You Ready For It?

Summer is almost over, job seekers! Before you shed a tear over the loss of pool days, sunshine, and shotgunning too many White Claws, let us tell you why this is a good thing.

If you’re actively looking for a job, you may have noticed that there are fewer opportunities during the summer months. Maybe you’ve been met with radio silence from the companies that you did apply to, despite being a perfect candidate.

There’s a perfectly logical explanation for this, and it has nothing to do with your skills or qualifications. To us, you are perfect.

With vacations and out-of-office days, the summer is usually an unreliable time to land your dream job. Recruiters have acknowledged the slowdown and offer a glimmer of hope to job seekers: the September Surge.

For years, September has been the primo time to apply for a job because companies are hiring like gangbusters. It’s proven that most of the hiring done in the second half of the year happens between September and October. Companies are in a rush to fill important roles before the end of the year, and they know that another slowdown will hit in November and December.

So what’s a social impact job seeker like yourself to do?

Here’s how you can get ahead of the September Surge:

  1. Brush up your resume and have it reviewed
  2. Reconnect with any contacts in the social impact world that can help you land your dream job
  3. Take online social impact courses that will prepare you for the job you want

And of course, hit up the Impact Job board and keep your eyes peeled for exciting opportunities. But first, go order a PSL and pretend it's cool enough to enjoy it. Fall is coming, friendos.
