About Us
Working in Montana’s Northern Great Plains, American Prairie is creating the largest nature reserve in the contiguous United States. Already underway, when complete the project will connect a rare grassland landscape of public and private spaces one and a half times larger than Yellowstone National Park — teeming with an amazing diversity and abundance of native wildlife. American Prairie is funded exclusively by private individuals and foundations. We engage in science and education projects, provide public access and help expand economic opportunities for local communities. National Geographic describes our work as “one of the most ambitious conservation efforts in American history.”
