Mental Health Innovation Analyst (Washington, DC Area – Hybrid/Remote)

  • Company: Hidden River Group (HRG)
  • Location: Washington, DC area (preferred)
  • Start date: ASAP
  • Compensation: $85,000 – $95,000 base salary + benefits + bonus

About the role

Hidden River Group is hiring a Mental Health Innovation Analyst to support a large public health organization as it builds an innovation platform for mental health – think accelerator + venture studio + portfolio management focused on identifying, supporting, and scaling emerging mental health applications aligned to client goals in the Veteran health space.

You will integrate into an experienced, high-performing team and work directly with clients who bring deep subject matter expertise. You will help build the innovation platform’s day-to-day operating rhythm, strengthen decision-making through data and analysis, and reduce administrative burden through smart processes and automation. You will operate with increasing independence while receiving consistent coaching and mentorship.

This role is a strong fit for someone who is excited by ambiguous problems, wants to build foundational consulting skills (especially structured problem solving), and wants to grow with a mission-driven firm over the long term.

What you’ll do

You will contribute across client delivery, platform operations, and analytics. Responsibilities will include:

Client delivery and stakeholder support

  • Attend client and internal meetings, capture clear notes, and drive action items to completion
  • Build and refine PowerPoint decks and written deliverables that keep stakeholders aligned
  • Manage email traffic, follow-ups, and calendar coordination to keep workstreams moving
  • Communicate crisply and professionally with senior client stakeholders and internal leaders

Innovation platform build-out

  • Support development of the operating model for an innovation portfolio – intake, screening, evaluation, support, and scaling
  • Create and iterate on templates, trackers, and playbooks that make the platform easier to run
  • Help design workflows that reduce administrative burden for client teams

Research, analysis, and problem solving

  • Conduct research and synthesize findings into insights and recommendations
  • Capture, clean, analyze, and interpret data related to the innovation pipeline and portfolio
  • Apply structured problem-solving approaches to ambiguous questions and evolving priorities
  • Contribute meaningfully to team discussions, brainstorms, and decision points

Automation and AI-first execution

  • Support building custom automations (lightweight tools, workflow automation, and task simplification)
  • Take an AI-first approach to analysis, drafting, and operational efficiency – with good judgment and attention to quality

Who you are

You are someone who thrives in dynamic environments and enjoys both thinking and doing. You are organized, curious, and comfortable owning workstreams with support and mentorship.

You likely bring:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and an interest in developing consulting foundations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication – you can synthesize complexity into clarity
  • High attention to detail and follow-through – you track actions and close loops
  • Comfort working independently while collaborating across a diverse team
  • Good judgment, discretion, and professionalism with clients
  • A desire to build a long-term career at a mission-driven company

Minimum qualifications

  • Master’s degree and/or 2+ years of relevant, full-time experience (consulting experience is not required but we are unable to count internships as full-time experience)
  • Experience producing professional deliverables (slides, memos, analyses, trackers, reports)
  • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work on deadlines
  • Ability to work primarily remote while being based in the broader Washington, DC area for periodic in-person collaboration

Preferred qualifications (nice to have)

  • Experience in mental health, public health, healthcare innovation, or related fields
  • Exposure to accelerators, venture programs, product incubation, or portfolio management
  • Comfort with data tools (Excel; bonus for SQL, Python, Power BI/Tableau)
  • Familiarity with automation tools (Power Automate, Notion, etc.) and full-stack AI tools
  • Experience supporting senior stakeholders in a fast-paced environment

What you’ll get

  • Competitive compensation ($85,000 – $95,000) plus benefits and bonus
  • Mentorship and coaching from seasoned consultants (including backgrounds from McKinsey and BCG) as well as operational, clinical, and technical experts
  • High-impact work in the Veteran health space, with opportunities to grow across HRG’s portfolio of public sector and nonprofit engagements
  • A team culture that values practical problem solving, ownership, and continuous learning
