The Regenerative Organic Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing regenerative organic agriculture worldwide. Our mission is to transform the global food system by promoting regenerative organic practices that restore soil health, biodiversity, and human well-being. Through the development of the Regenerative Organic Certification, we support farmers, ranchers, brands, and consumers in the transition to a more sustainable and equitable food system.

Location: Mexico/Central America Based (100% Remote)
Reports to: Certification Manager
Job Type: Considered self-employed, contracted outside the USA.
Salary: $2200- $2500 USD per Month
Start Date: July 2025

Position Overview

The Certification Specialist (CS) is responsible for supporting the day-to-day functions of the certification program. This includes reviewing ROC applications, evaluating documentation, and coordinating certification decisions based on recommendations from approved certification bodies. The CS also helps maintain key client data in ROA’s certification database (Intact) and ensures responsive support for partners and applicants.

This role requires a strong understanding of global supply chains and international certification standards across various sectors. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and passionate about transforming food systems through regenerative organic practices.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the ROA certification team to support smooth daily operations
  • Respond to certification-related inquiries and support client application follow-ups
  • Review and process licensing applications and label submissions for approval
  • Conduct initial reviews of incoming ROC certification applications and documents
  • Build strong relationships with brands and supply chain actors (SCAs) to support long-term licensing
  • Identify unique sourcing opportunities and help cultivate strategic brand/SCA partnerships
  • Contribute to the implementation of internal improvements and growth opportunities
  • Provide high-quality support to producers transitioning to ROC certification
  • Offer guidance and technical assistance to brands and SCAs bringing certified products to market
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of client support systems and certification processes
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in agriculture, food technology, or related field (preferred)
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish (written and spoken) is required; knowledge of French, Portuguese, or Hindi is a plus
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in food, agriculture, or other sustainability certification programs (such as organic, fairtrade, regenerative, or similar), including technical review, auditing, or inspection work
  • Strongly preferred: experience with social auditing (e.g., SA8000) and/or animal welfare programs (e.g., PAACO)
  • Demonstrated expertise in organic, animal welfare, and social fairness certifications, especially in produce, cacao, or sugar
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for conferences or trade shows
  • Comfortable working on a computer for extended periods.
  • Deep passion for regenerative organic agriculture, food systems, farming, animal welfare, and social justice
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, start-up-like environment
  • Clear and effective communicator with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong multitasking and time-management skills with consistent attention to detail
  • Professional and effective in written, verbal, and virtual communication
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Asana
  • Experience with database management systems required.
