About us:

Work On Climate is a leading US-based non-profit on a mission to mobilize humanity’s talent to build a regenerative green economy.

We are most known for building the world’s largest online community for professionals wishing to use their talent for climate (with 32,000+ members). We have helped over 3,000 people find climate jobs, helped a similar number of founders advance their companies, and became de facto “the” climate community in the US.

However, our ambitions go much farther. We see our community as nurturing the seeds of the Climate Work Movement, which transforms each professional field into a force for regeneration through the collective action of individuals and organizations in the field (rather than simply helping individuals find meaningful career opportunities or filling workforce gaps).

Our work has been highlighted in most major business press, from Fast Company to the New York Times.

Who we’re looking for:

We are looking for a part-time Development Manager to help Work On Climate get better at engaging with our donors and managing our fundraising pipeline. This is the right role for someone exceptionally efficient, organized, independent, excellent at communication, and experienced with interacting with donors.

What we’d ask you to do:

  • Maintain the full spectrum of communication with existing donors — mass updates, personal notes, scheduling meetings, sharing follow-up materials, participating in occasional calls, and so on
  • Organize in-person fundraising events
  • Support the Executive Director with preliminary research to vet potential new donors/grant opportunities or prepare for meetings
  • Maintain, improve, or create systems related to managing the donor pipeline and interfacing with the finance team

What would make it a fit for us:

  • You have at least 2 years of experience in roles that involve closely working with high-touch relationships, such as philanthropic donors, investors, or business partners.
  • You have a track record of at least 5 years of work leveraging the qualities below.
  • You are extremely organized, consistent, and detail-oriented — things go smoothly when you’re in charge.
  • You can communicate complex information with an angle, level of detail, or tone appropriate to the audience and circumstance.
  • You are an efficiency, simplicity, systems nerd — you handle volume and complexity by automating, organizing, and simplifying everything you touch, rather than by working late hours.
  • You are very comfortable with data and quantitative thinking, including simple financial data — eg. able to model cash flow scenarios based on the state of our donor pipeline.
  • You are comfortable working closely with a founder. This requires a high level of comfort with ambiguity, abstract thinking, and efficient communication when “managing up”.
  • You have a warm heart and place great importance on interpersonal relationships, emotional intelligence, kindness, and transparency.

This is a half-time hourly (non-exempt) position at approximately 20 hours per week, paid $33-$43/h (around $35-45k per year) depending on requirement satisfaction, your experience, and location. This position offers sick leave, paid holidays, and 60 hours of PTO accrued per year. Being part-time, this role does not offer medical insurance.

Depending on job performance and the organization’s financial circumstances, this role may offer a path to a full-time role with additional benefits and greater leadership responsibilities.

This is a remote role and we are open to all US-based candidates. We are not able to work with any candidates outside the US or who lack US work authorization. The role may require some minimal travel (up to 1-2 weeks per quarter).

We believe that our mission is best served through the combined strengths of people from a wide variety of backgrounds, and thus we encourage all qualified candidates to apply. We respect the humanity and individual circumstances of all our team members — while our standards for each other are high, we strive for a healthy work-life balance.
