Job Summary

Mission-driven statewide nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to justice across Maryland is seeking a Director of Finance and Administration to oversee and manage the organization's financial health, accounting processes, budgeting, compliance, and general administration. This individual will provide strategic financial leadership and ensure operational efficiency, playing a key role in organizational growth and sustainability.  

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead the financial planning and analysis process, including developing the annual budget, grant allocations and forecasting. 

• Prepare financial statements for board and team, ensuring they comply with grant and regulatory requirements. 

• Manage cash flow, investments, and financial risk to ensure liquidity and sustainability. 

• Work closely with the auditor to respond to requests, provide documentation, and ensure compliance. 

• Work closely with development team to prepare budgets and other financial reports for grants. 

• Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies and procedures to ensure sound financial control and compliance with laws and regulations. 

• Manage payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and financial reporting systems. 

• Oversee insurance coverage applications, compliance, and reports. 

• Lead, mentor, and supervise finance and administration team.

Strategic Planning and Advisory: 

• Advise the executive leadership team on financial strategies, risks, and opportunities. 

• Provide financial insights to guide long-term organizational planning and decision-making. 

• Analyze and report on financial performance to stakeholders and board members. 

• Collaborate with department heads to ensure alignment between financial goals and operational objectives.

Administration and Operations: 

• Oversee administrative functions, including human resources, IT, facilities management, and insurance, and other operational services. 

• Ensure operational efficiency by continuously improving administrative processes. 

• Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and procurement processes.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field. MBA or CPA preferred. 

• Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years in finance and administration, with at least 2 years in a managerial or leadership role. Non-profit experience required. 

Skills: 

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting. 

• Experience with non-profit budgeting and grant management. 

• Proficient in financial software (e.g., QuickBooks, RAMP, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite including Excel. 

• Strong leadership and team management skills. 

• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. 

• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. 

• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through. 

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. 

• Experience in legal services or working with attorneys is a plus but not required.

The ideal candidate for this role will have a passion for nonprofit work, strong finance and business skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. They should be detail-oriented, organized, and able to collaborate effectively with team members.

Amenities

• Competitive salary ranging from $95,000 - $120,000 per annum depending on experience.

• Hybrid in-person/remote work.

Location

Preference given to candidates who can work hybrid in Baltimore, MD.
