Description:

The Facilities & Environmental Sustainability Manager (FESM) is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing facilities projects with a particular focus on advancing the School’s sustainability initiatives. This role ensures that all building projects, renovations, maintenance, and campus operations align with best practices in energy efficiency, environmental stewardship, and long-term resource management. The FESM is responsible for the daily management of the office, budgeting, and long range planning functions within the Facilities Department. The FESM works with the Assistant Head of School for Finance and Operations, the Sustainability Core Team, faculty, and staff to promote a safe, healthy, and sustainable campus environment that supports the mission of the School.

Applicants should thrive working in a fast-paced environment where a high level of customer service is expected. A Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Environmental Science, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field is preferred, with a minimum 5 years of experience in facilities project management, construction, or sustainability initiatives (preferably in an educational or nonprofit environment). Candidates should have a strong knowledge of sustainable design principles, LEED/CHPS standards, and energy management systems and proven ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and contractors simultaneously. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills along with strong communication and interpersonal skills are required as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Candidates should have familiarity with regulatory requirements, environmental compliance, and building codes.


Responsibilities Include:

- Plan, budget, and oversee capital improvement projects and maintenance initiatives.

- Develop and manage project schedules, bid processes, vendor contracts, and contractor performance.

- Develop project budgets, track expenditures, and provide regular financial reports.

- Pursue grants, rebates, and incentives related to energy efficiency and sustainability.

- Ensure all projects adhere to budget, schedule, and quality expectations.

- Support day-to-day facilities operations to ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable functioning of all campus systems (HVAC, lighting, plumbing, waste, and grounds).

- Ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local government regulations, including ISO, OSHA, EPA, Fire, NFPA, and permitting.

- Maintain the card access system (Genetec/Siemens), including issuing new swipe cards and creating schedules.

- Partner with the Facilities team on preventive maintenance programs that extend asset life and improve efficiency.

- Maintain complete records, diagrams, and maps of utility systems.

- In collaboration with the Director of Facilities, manage Facilities department budget, all required filings, long and short term planning of the department.

- Manage Facilities department office including maintaining a log of AP, COI’s for contractors, and ordering of supplies.

- Be a contributing member of the Calendar and Communications Team by helping event planners to submit complete and clear requests for Facilities support.

- Lead and implement campus-wide sustainability initiatives (e.g., energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, green cleaning, sustainable landscaping).

- Monitor and report on sustainability metrics, including energy and water usage, carbon footprint, and recycling/diversion rates.

- Research, recommend, and integrate new technologies and best practices to reduce environmental impact and operating costs.

- Serve as the school’s subject matter expert, co-leading the Sustainability Core Team, and educating faculty, staff, administration, and Board of Trustees.

- Maintaining dashboard of investment in green physical plant upgrades and reporting out to the Board on savings and recommendations for next investments.

- Collaborate with academic leaders to integrate sustainability into school culture and curriculum where possible.

- Participate in a peer cohort of environmental sustainability school leaders; partner with environmental sustainability leadership at neighboring schools.


Compensation:

This is a salaried position. The salary range is $75,000 - $80,000.
