Caritas Bakhita House is a safe house for women who have been trafficked, enslaved or exploited. Opened in 2015, it offers a safe environment and tailored, trauma-informed support to help guests begin their journey of recovery.
We are now looking for a Support Worker to join our team at Bakhita House on a permanent, full-time basis, working 35 hours per week, usually on a three-week rolling rota. Shifts are 8:00am–4:00pm, 9:00am–5:00pm or 2:00pm–10:00pm, for five days per week, including bank holidays but excluding nights.
Please note, due to the nature of this role, it is only open to female candidates, as being female is an occupational requirement under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

You will be a key part of our response to modern slavery, working within a residential setting where your support can make a meaningful difference to women at a particularly vulnerable stage in their lives.
The Role
As a Support Worker, you will help provide a safe, secure and supportive residential environment for female victims of human trafficking and/or modern slavery.
Working as part of a small team, you will share responsibility for supporting individual cases, contributing to their recovery and helping them access the services, opportunities and practical assistance they need.
You will also oversee housing matters, contribute to life skills programmes and workshops, and support women through a range of statutory, advocacy and justice processes.
Additionally, you will:
- Develop and review individual support plans and complete risk assessments
- Signpost women to health and wellbeing services to support their holistic recovery
- Help women access statutory benefits and job or volunteering opportunities
- Assist with asylum, National Referral Mechanism (NRM) and criminal justice processes
About You
To be considered as a Support Worker, you will need significant experience of:
- Working with vulnerable women who have been victims of exploitation
- Supporting women with high support needs in a residential setting
- Developing, implementing and reviewing support plans and risk assessments
- Working with pregnant women and their babies
Due to the work involved, you will also need a flexible approach to working hours and be willing to work outside of your scheduled hours as required.
