Summary. Longview is rapidly scaling in size and impact. We directed >$70M in 2025 and aim for ~$200M in 2026. We're looking for a Business Operations Analyst/Associate to help build the foundation that facilitates that impact. Reporting to the Business Operations Director, this generalist will own many of the projects, processes, and logistics that keep Longview running, and enable us to most efficiently raise and disburse philanthropic capital to maximize the value of the future.

Longview Philanthropy provides support and expert grantmaking for major donors focused on the highest-impact opportunities to reduce catastrophic and existential risks and increase the value of the future. Our primary focus areas are AI safety & governance, and nuclear weapons policy. We are on track to be the second-largest AI safety grantmaker and the largest nuclear weapons policy grantmaker in 2026. Founded in 2018, we have grown to a team of ~25, with plans to expand to 35+ by the end of 2026. Between 2018 and 2024, we directed approximately $100 million to high-impact organizations. About Business Operations

Business Operations (“BizOps”) owns and optimizes Longview’s non-staff resources, including AI tools, software, processes, contractors, equipment, and offices. We also provide operational support to other teams — for example, supporting grantee events, providing software support, and project managing novel initiatives, such as a new multi-donor funding initiative. There’s always more to be done than capacity, so Business Operations staff are expected to be disciplined about what matters most. That means asking 'what's the highest-leverage thing I can do right now?', being willing to say no to lower-priority work, and building systems that prevent the same problem from landing on your desk twice.

Impact of the Role

It’s common to hear at Longview, ‘if only we had 3x BizOps capacity.’ BizOps are ‘the all-purpose doers’ and therefore contribute to which ideas become reality and how fast teams can move. The BizOps Associate/Analyst will:

Help the machine run better with double the amount of staff: you will help identify and engage more contractors to outsource work and create more capacity across the org; you’ll ensure our softwares and offices are user-friendly and support effective working; you’ll ensure crucial information is easy to find, easy to understand and accurate; you’ll help ensure new starters have the right systems to ramp in days not weeks.
Help more impactful ideas become reality: When a team has an idea for a project, more BizOps capacity means more chances to say ‘yes, we can project manage that’, or ‘yes, we’ll build that tool for you’. You might not be building the tool (though if you can, you might!), you’ll definitely be ensuring BizOps has the capacity to say yes to more.

As we scale, you’ll help turn organizational growth from a bottleneck into a tailwind.

Responsibilities

Scaling operations and systems thinking

Identify where processes aren't scaling and design solutions fit for a 35+ person organization—what worked at 15 people likely won’t work at 35+
Provide operational capacity for grantmaking and advising teams. At the analyst level, you might source a venue and manage logistics for a grantee event; at the associate level, you might own that event end-to-end, from scoping through vendor selection and stakeholder comms.
Own and evolve norms for how the team uses core systems: Slack conventions, Google Drive structure, LLMs, and software integrations and automations
Write SOPs for recurring tasks and keep documentation current so institutional knowledge is accessible and work doesn't stall when team members are unavailable

Coordinate contractors and assistants to increase Business Operations' Impact

We encourage aggressive outsourcing and automating to maximize the time staff spend on work that only they can do
You’ll work closely with our external executive assistant and other contractors to oversee routine tasks, including scheduling recurring meetings, preparing agendas, invoice processing, elements of on/offboarding, and ad hoc research or information entry

Org-wide coordination and team support

Coordinate org-wide meetings and processes: team AMAs, sprint planning, and all-staff meetings
Moderate Slack (channel creation and norms) and manage the general inbox

Onboarding, offboarding, and work trial logistics

Manage work trial logistics end-to-end, ensuring triallists have the right access and setup from day one
Design and maintain the operational components of staff onboarding: equipment, desk setup, office orientation, and logistical materials
Own onboarding/offboarding from a systems perspective—ensuring all staff are onboarded to and offboarded from systems, with account access kept current
Coordinate with People Ops, hiring managers, and our IT managed service provider on access provisioning

Financial administration

Administer business expense cards (Payhawk/Ramp): manage card distribution, monitor and review submissions, approve funds within the limit, and troubleshoot
Review expense documentation and coordinate with external bookkeepers on invoice processing

We're open to hiring at the Analyst or Associate level, depending on experience and assessment. At the Analyst level, you'll execute a defined set of operational AORs with your manager setting priorities and reviewing outputs. At the Associate level, you own projects more end-to-end — tracking deliverables against the agreed scope and resolving issues with reduced escalation compared to an Analyst.

Both roles are expected to have a strong grasp of the traits below.

What we're looking for

Here are some things we expect to find in a Business Operations Analyst or Associate:

Radical prioritization: You instinctively ask "what bad thing happens if I don't do this?" before committing your time. You recognize scope creep early, understand the trade-offs between competing priorities, and can explain how specific operational decisions enable program teams to focus on their most important work. You don't just stay busy, you stay focused on what matters most for the mission.
Ownership and accountability: You take full responsibility for your work and its outcomes. Before starting a project, you think through what could go wrong, what the dependencies are, and what contingencies to build in. When something doesn't go as planned, you reflect on what happened and implement changes without being prompted. You're energized, not intimidated, by having the buck stop with you.
Strategic focus: When you're handed a problem, you start by asking "what's the outcome we want?" and work backward from there, rather than jumping straight into execution. You think about the most effective path to a result, not just the most obvious one.
Proactive communication: You close loops on tasks without needing reminders. You surface risks before they become crises. Your updates are clear, concise, and easy to engage with. You lead with the bottom line, include clear next steps, and calibrate the level of detail to your audience.
Comfort with ambiguity and resourcefulness: You don’t need or expect a playbook. You can take on work where the path forward is unclear, break it down into manageable steps, and make progress without constant direction. You ask clarifying questions to understand the actual problem before proposing solutions, you're upfront about knowledge or skill gaps, and you find ways to unblock yourself.
Systems mindset: When you fix a problem, you aim to fix it in a way that prevents recurrence, while also being open to a quick fix if it’s worth prioritizing more time on something else (see above, Radical prioritization). You build infrastructure, not workarounds, and you think about whether a process should be automated, delegated, or deleted before you do it yourself.
Hands-on with AI tools: Business Operations is Longview’s AI champion. We expect this hire to be comfortable with AI tools from day one and excited to push the boundaries of their use. Examples of relevant experience might include building automations, using AI for document processing or research, or improving team workflows with AI-assisted tooling.
Interpersonal skills: You're someone colleagues feel comfortable approaching — whether it's a systems question, an event logistics query, or a request that doesn't fit neatly into anyone's job description.

This role probably isn't for you if

You want predictability and consistency in your workslate. The world’s moving fast, and so are we. Some of your work will be fairly predictable, but if there’s a sprint or another team needs capacity, you might be asked to pause live projects to lend operational support on a totally new project.
You're primarily interested in grantmaking or fundraising and see an operations role as a route in. We’re looking for someone who wants to develop strong operational chops—not someone who'll be looking for the exit soon after starting.
You find service-oriented work draining. A meaningful part of this job is making other people's work easier. If this isn’t exciting for you, we expect you might not enjoy this role.
You’re looking to be delegated a clear and manageable task list with a playbook. Everyone at Longview practices hard prioritization to keep their task list manageable, and we rarely have a playbook for how to do something. Your manager will support you, but you’ll be encouraged to develop strong prioritization and problem-solving instincts.
(Associate level only) You struggle to delegate or hold contractors accountable. Managing external support well is core to this role.

Compensation and benefits

Compensation:

These ranges are for individuals working from one of our offices in London, DC, or San Francisco. Compensation may be adjusted downwards for other locations.

Total compensation*: $88,000-$110,000 (~£64,800-£81,100)
Base salary: $80,000-$100,000 (~£59,000-£73,700)
Unconditional pension/401(k) contribution: 10% of base salary
$8,000-$10,000 (~£5,900-£7,400)

*For candidates with more experience — for example, someone who has managed complex projects end-to-end across multiple teams or independently managed contractors — we're open to hiring at a more senior level with compensation adjusted accordingly.
