Scope of Work

Liberation Ventures seeks an exceptional ghostwriter to help amplify the case for reparations through powerful written content. This person will help to research, craft and edit op-eds, thought leadership articles, speeches and funder pitches that translate complex ideas about racial repair into compelling narratives that move hearts, minds, and resources.

You'll work closely with LV’s Co-Founder & CEO, Aria Florant, to capture her voice, synthesize her strategic thinking, and produce high-quality written content that advances our mission. This position may also include writing with select other members of the LV team. We’re looking for someone with exceptional writing experience and also research or journalism experience, who can not only capture Aria’s and Liberation Ventures’ voice, but also conduct research to enable more powerful thought leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Content Creation & Writing

  • Ghostwrite op-eds and other content for publication in major news outlets, capturing Aria's distinctive voice and strategic perspective
  • Research existing reparations, economic, racial justice, democracy and repair topics, stories and concepts to include in written pieces.
  • Translate complex policy concepts and movement strategy into accessible, persuasive narratives
  • Align with Liberation Ventures' narrative department for best practices and messaging guidance.
  • Adapt writing style and tone for different audiences — from movement partners to mainstream media to high-net-worth donors

Strategic Partnership

  • Conduct regular interviews and working sessions with Aria to understand her thinking and capture her voice
  • Conduct interviews with reparations leaders, economists, researchers, or other relevant stakeholders to better tell their stories and reference their work in the written pieces. 
  • Synthesize research, data, and movement insights into clear, compelling arguments
  • Anticipate Aria's needs and proactively identify opportunities for thought leadership
  • Collaborate with Liberation Ventures team members to ensure content aligns with organizational strategy and movement partnerships

Process & Quality

  • Manage the full writing process from conception through publication, including research, drafting, revision, and submission
  • Gather feedback from internal team members and external partners to strengthen content
  • Coordinate with editors, publications, and other external partners
  • Track deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously with excellent attention to detail

Compensation

$100/hour hourly contract

10-20 hours per month
